Will I have a say in what my project will look like?
Of course you will. Our job, as interior designers, is to discover what you like and dislike and
integrate the things you like into the design plan and discard the things you dont like. And we
dont try to impose our tastes upon you. This is your project not ours. Ultimately you are the
one who must be happy with the results.
Why do I need an interior designer?
As interior designers, it is our business to stay current with new products so we can introduce
those products to you, our clients. You may see a product but dont know where to find the product.
An interior designer will help with that. Or you see an extremely expensive product and fall in love
with it. An interior designer might have a comparable, less expensive alternative.
That saves you money. In the end, our experience, in addition to the design tools we use could
save you time and costly mistakes.
Why not use a retail furniture store?
We wont try to sell you furniture that does not fit into your space. After all,
a furniture salesmans job is to sell you as much furniture possible, whether you need it or not. One of our first tasks for
your project is to draw a floor plan with furniture and insure all furniture will fit in your space. This is called space
planning. Our designers at BK Design Associates are expert space planners. The best advertising we can do is
complete an interior design project successfully to show off to your friends and family.
Can't I just use a home improvement store for my remodeling project?
We don't recommend that. First were expertly trained, with years of experience in all aspects of interior
design including code and ergonomic requirements. Second we wont be specifying products from only one
store. We have the entire trade to choose from and will select quality products that best suit your needs
and budget. Third, your design is our vision too. We see to it that the results are everything you expected
by being onsite as the main contractor as the work is being done.
How will you help me visualize the finished product?
In addition to drawing plans, we also can draw renderings of your space. Renderings are typically 2
dimensional pictures that represent a 3d view. Renderings can either be black and white line drawings
or with colors and can be produced by the computer or hand drawn.
Why do you need a budget number from me? I'm not comfortable giving you that.
Having a number gives us a starting place when selecting products. It saves us both time.
And in the end youll be happier with our work if we stay within your budget.
I'm not wealthy. How can I afford an interior designer?
Everyone is on a budget, just to different degrees. And excellent design is for everyone at every price point.
Most of our clients arent wealthy. We are experts at working a budget. We also know the best ways to invest
your hard-earned money to get the biggest impact in the design. And in the end, who knows! We might even save you money.
Can you do my project for $1000 like on TV?
Most of the $1000 design shows are primarily painting projects and the labor isnt factored
into the cost. We will give you fair estimates that include materials, labor, furniture,
fixtures, and equipment that will give you the results you want.
Will you work with what I already have?
Of course. Sustainable design is a big catch phrase in our industry these days. That means we
dont throw out things that are perfectly good particularly if it's something you love. Its important to our environment to make use of
what we already have. If we cant use what we have, we need to recycle. Used or vintage furniture
is a great way to recycle. Vintage can also be a great bargain.
Vintage? I dont want someones used stuff in my house.
Thats where our expertise comes into play. We can take an old sofa or chair and make it look brand
new again with new fabric, foam, and springs. Older upholstered furniture frames are usually much
better quality at a fraction of the cost of comparable new upholstery.
Will you work with me on a pay as we go basis?
Absolutely! We are happy to develop a design plan and implement it over an extended time period.
I just want drapes. Can you help me with that?
Of course. Anything having to do with interior fashion is our niche. Were even happy to do
just wood blinds or shutters if thats what you want. For merchandise like wood blinds and
shutters there usually is no designer fee.
What is your fee?
We structure our design fees to your unique project. We prefer to work on a fee basis. But well
work hourly if you prefer. Merchandise prices are presented to you in a separate
contract from our design fee. Our mark up is calculated on a sliding scale. The more you spend,
the more you save.
What is your design style?
We are experienced in all styles. Our portfolio includes ultra modern to uber traditional and all
styles in-between. An experienced interior designer should be versatile enough to do all styles,
not just one. There are designers with a signature style. However you will pay dearly for their
signature, which is fine as long as its in your budget.
What brands do you sell?
We can usually get any brand you are interested in with most being discounted significantly to you everyday. Some of our favorite better known brands are American Leather,
Bassett, Kravet, Robert Allen, Hickory Chair, Stanley, Hickory White, American Drew, Bernhardt, Henredon, Hekman, Lexington, Lane, Marge Carson, Saloom, Sherrill,
Swaim, Della Robbia, Acerbis, Johnston Casuals, Thayer Coggin, Lazar, Brown Jordan, and Tropitone, to name just a few. There are really too many
to name from furniture, to rugs, to accessories. Additionally we can offer you discounts from retail stores such as Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma Home, West Elm, Pier One, and
Restoration Hardware. Stop paying full retail price or stores fabricated sales prices and call BK Design Associates instead.
